Amazon Announces Kindle For the Web

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced on Tuesday the beta version of “Kindle for the Web,” which will allow users to sample Kindle books directly through the Web with no download required.

“With Kindle for the Web, it’s easier than ever for customers to sample Kindle books – there’s no downloading or installation required," said Dorothy Nicholls, Director, Amazon Kindle. "Kindle for the Web is also a great way for bloggers and authors to promote books on their websites by letting visitors read a chapter without leaving their site."

The browser-based version of the popular e-reader, will expand on Amazon’s “Read the first chapter for free” service offer the Web itself. The book previews will also have the ability to be shared via services like Facebook and Twitter.
This service may make for a strong viral tool for authors who would like to get the Web buzzing about a book.

Book reader will also have the potential to earn referral fees from Amazon when customers complete book purchases using links from their Web sites.

Shares of Amazon are down 97 cents to $158.40 in early market movement on Tuesday.
