Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) announced that the president of its China operations, Kai-Fu Lee, is resigning. Lee will be replaced by Boon-Lock Yeo, currently director of Google's Shanghai engineering office, and John Liu, who currently leads Google's sales team in greater China.

Lee joined Google in 2005 after leaving Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), sparking a legal battle between the two which was later settled.

Lee is leaving Google to work on his own venture, the company said.

UPDATE: CITIC Publisher announced that Dr. Kai-Fu Lee has published a new book, "Making A World of Difference" and confirmed that he will be leaving Google as Google Vice President and President of Google Greater China in mid-September.

Dr. Lee will announce a new project on September 7th, 2009. This new project will combine Dr. Lee's passion for entrepreneurship, technology, experience in building organizations, and love for mentoring young executives.
