Harvard Business Review Press Launches First HBR Single
New product line offers brief yet potent business ideas in digital-only format
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Harvard Business Review Press is pleased to announce an addition to its publishing portfolio with the launch of its first HBR Single. Singles are short, digital products designed to bring readers the content they want quickly and in an easily accessible format. They feature both original ideas and expanded content that was first developed in Harvard Business Review magazine or on HBR.org.
The Singles program launched this month with the release of Nine Things Successful People Do Differently, by Dr. Heidi Halvorson. Based on Halvorson’s highly successful blog post from HBR.org, Nine Things… explores why some people excel at achieving their goals while others do not. Halvorson’s original blog post resonated with readers, garnering more than 1.6 million page views and over 300 comments—and continues to grow in popularity as one of the most popular posts each week on HBR.org.
Halvorson, a motivational psychologist, builds on decades of research on achievement that suggests that successful people reach their goals not simply because of who they are, but more often because of what they do. In the new Single, she expands on the scientific and psychological secrets behind success and gives readers even more detail on each of her nine suggested actions—from getting specific around goals and aggressively monitoring achievements to understanding the importance of having “grit.” Halvorson also identifies common mistakes that can derail even the most motivated employees and managers.
“HBR Singles present another step toward making sure that each idea that we offer our readers comes to them in the right-sized package—from a blog post to a magazine article to a full-sized book, and now a Single,” said Tim Sullivan, Editorial Director for Harvard Business Review Press. “The strength of our publishing platforms allows us to create products faster from ideas that we know are resonating with our audience. In the case of Heidi Halvorson’s work, we already had positive market feedback on the idea given the remarkable response to her original post.”
HBR Singles are available on HBR.org, Kindle, iPad and other ereaders through Amazon, the iBookstore, and other ebooksellers. Nine Things Successful People Do Differently is priced at $3.99. Publishing next in the Singles program is Betterness: Economics for Humans, by popular HBR.org blogger Umair Haque. Betterness, due out on December 19, 2011, is a powerful call to arms for a post-capitalist economy.
