Let the Virtual Snoball Fight Begin!
Online social giving platform leverages Army-Navy rivalry to support military-based charitable causes
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Snoball Inc., a revolutionary online platform designed to affect change through online giving, today announced an online rivalry event where anyone can make donations to Operation Gratitude and Marine Toys for Tots based on outcomes of the upcoming Army-Navy game. The historical Army-Navy game, set for Saturday, December 10, inspired the Snoball team to establish a way to honor veterans, those still serving, and their families by encouraging Americans to get competitive and challenge themselves and others to give for a good cause.
Through Snoball.com, anyone can create personalized parameters for giving. Known as “Snoballs”, they are defined by specific conditions or events that trigger a donation to a charity, typically tied to the individual’s interests. The specific event, donation and time interval are defined by the user such as; “Every time I check-in at a college sporting event, I will donate $1 to my favorite charity.”
For more than a century The Black Nights & Midshipmen have competed in what is popularly know as “America’s Game.” This year, through Snoball’s Army-Navy online rivalry, Americans have the opportunity to enthusiastically show support for the U.S. military by creating Snoballs that build donation momentum for charitable causes in a fun, easy and interactive way, while preparing for and watching the live game.
“There is such excitement and history around this game,” said John Ludlow, chief strategy officer of Snoball. “We wanted to provide enthusiasts with the opportunity to thank our service members by giving back to the causes they care about.”
The company has designed an original pack of Snoballs around specific stats and outcomes of this year’s game to benefit Operation Gratitude and Marine Toys for Tots. Leading up to the event and during the game, individuals can join a Snoball or create their own. For example, a fan can choose to join the Snoball, “When Navy beats Army on national TV, I will give $1 to Toys for Tots,” or “If Army wins, and they will, I will give $1 to Operation Gratitude.” The transactions will be triggered following the game, and Snoball will provide a full report to givers and the non-profits on the total “Snoball Effect”, or total amount of donations, generated surrounding the event.
Every Snoball can be shared across social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare, encouraging friends to support the cause or create their own parameter for giving. As Snoballs get shared among friends, donations begin to grow virally generating the Snoball effect.
The Army-Navy game takes place Saturday, December 10 at the FedEx Field in Washington, D.C. If you are interested in supporting the U.S. military and the causes they care about, join the online rivalry and create a Snoball account today.
